WHAT WE DO

At ArtPrint Editions, we reproduce art work onto various media such as watercolor paper, canvas, matte paper and luster paper. We can make an artist just one print or hundreds depending on the particular need or budget. The accepted name of the process we use is referred to as GicleePrinting (pronounced zee-clay) which is a French term loosely meaning to spray ink on paper, or in our case pigmented ink on art paper. This combination of pigment ink and archival paper should give a print life of 100 years.

The print life specifications seem to be extended almost monthly as the ink and paper companies compete for longer archival qualities. As it is now, the fade qualities are as good or better as lithographs, serigraphs, and actually many originals. Colors are true, whites are white, and sharpness is beautiful. Giclée printing gives you the opportunity to "print on demand". You can print as many as you need now, and re-order as you need in the future. Future prints will look just like the first ones.

THE PROCESS

First Step: When we receive your original art or film of your original, we scan it with high resolution scanning equipment which will typically produce file sizes of 200 megabytes if needed (about 40 times higher that the typical consumer camera). If you have a scan or wish to have one made locally, call us and we will give you the minimum resolution we will need to make the size prints you desire.

Second Step: We now have an image of your art work on our computer, and now comes the hard part. This is the color management step and is the most critical step in the process of making Giclee Prints. If the scanned image is printed without good color management the resulting print would likely have areas of color that wouldn't match the original art. Through a series of "profiling" and "tweaking" we are able to adjust the colors to closely match those of the original.

Third Step: When the image on the computer meets our approval, we output the image to the size of 11x14. This sample print is analyzed and reprinted until we get the best possible match. When the print has been approved, we complete the order to the final size(s) and ship to the customer in about 10 days.
